Regular care

• Air it rather than washing it often
Cashmere is often called “self-cleaning”. That is not quite right – the fibre does not clean itself. But it binds odours inside the fibre and releases them again when aired, and odour-causing bacteria find poor conditions on its dry surface. That is why a cashmere poncho rarely needs washing: aired overnight, it is fresh again the next morning. Whatever has soaked into the fibre – red wine, oil, sweat – has to be washed out.

• Handle pilling gently
Slight bobbling is a natural property of the fine fibres in high-quality cashmere. Fluff can be removed carefully with a cashmere comb or a special fabric shaver if needed.

• Give the fibres time to recover
After wearing, it is a good idea to let the poncho rest for a day now and then. This allows the fine cashmere fibres to relax and keep their natural shape.

Washing

• Clean only when needed
Washing too often puts unnecessary strain on the delicate cashmere fibres.

• Hand washing recommended
Wash the poncho gently by hand in cold to lukewarm water (max. 30 °C) with a mild wool or cashmere detergent.

• Alternatively: a gentle wool cycle
If recommended by the manufacturer, a particularly gentle wool or delicates cycle at a maximum of 30 °C can be used.

• Do not rub or wring
Simply move the poncho gently through the water and then press it out carefully.

Drying

• Dry flat
After washing, carefully ease the poncho into shape and let it dry lying flat on a towel.

• No direct sunlight
Strong heat and direct sun can strain the fine natural fibres and affect the colour.

• Do not tumble dry
The heat of a tumble dryer can cause shrinking and permanent damage to the fibres.

Storage

• Store folded
Cashmere ponchos should not be hung up for long periods, as the material can be distorted by its own weight.

• Store dry and clean
Before storage, the poncho should be completely dry and clean.
