What this shop is for
Namaste Kids supports more than 500 children from very poor families, most of them in remote mountain regions of the Himalaya. Over many years, until the end of their schooling, so that they can go to school and grow up healthy.
Every purchase makes a twofold difference. With every item sold, the women who wove it are paid. What remains after deducting all selling costs contributes substantially to the work of Namaste Kids e. V. The aim is to break the cycle of poverty and lack of education that would otherwise continue from one generation to the next, so that families become less dependent on donations.
What the NPIA standard requires

Our certified pieces carry their own certificate number. Enter it on our verification page and confirm the authenticity – from the Himalaya to you.
The certificates are issued by the Nepal Pashmina Industries Association (NPIA) – Nepal's only state-recognised body for genuine Himalayan cashmere. The standard requires a fibre fineness of no more than 17 micrometres; our certified pieces measure between 15 and 15.3 micrometres.

Was your item made responsibly and fairly?
Yes. For years we have worked closely with a manufactory in Nepal that is certified by the Nepal Pashmina Industries Association (NPIA) – Nepal's only state-recognised body for genuine Himalayan cashmere. We know the working conditions there first-hand: the pieces are made by trained craftswomen and craftsmen under fair conditions and with fair pay. And because we follow the production chain from the wool of the high pastures of Manang and Upper Mustang to the finished piece, we know for every item where and how it was made.
Are there special terms for larger orders?
Yes. For larger orders we offer special terms – whether you would like several copies of one item or a selection of different items. This applies to almost our entire range with the exception of the unique pieces. In addition, on request we also produce to your individual specifications in larger quantities – for resale, as presents for business partners or for special occasions, for example – at wholesale terms. Simply get in touch with us; we will be glad to prepare a personal quotation for you.
How precise is the stated product colour?
Our photos reproduce the colours as faithfully as possible. Because these are natural materials in natural colours, the same item can look different depending on the light – daylight, sunlight, artificial or evening light change the impression of colour. This is not a flaw but the characteristic of a living, natural material, which simply does not always look the same as synthetic fibre does.
What can I do if a thread should come loose on my item?
Every item goes through a four-stage quality check before it is dispatched: at the manufactory, then with us in Nepal, before shipping to Germany and once again before shipping to you. This makes it practically impossible for a damaged item to reach you. Handwoven pieces are robust – if a thread does shift or work loose after longer use, it can usually be guided back into the fabric with simple means, a needle for example. And in us you have a lasting point of contact: whether your scarf was bought yesterday or five years ago – we take your concern just as seriously and are glad to help.
Can I wash and clean my item myself?
Yes. A care and storage guide is included with every item on delivery; you will find the same information on the respective product page. The basic rules are the same for almost all our textiles: better to air them regularly than to wash them often. If you do wash, then gently – cashmere and silk are best washed by hand in cold to lukewarm water with a mild wool detergent, blankets also on a wool or delicates programme at a maximum of 30 °C. Do not rub, wring or tumble dry, but dry flat. For storage the rule is: store dry, airy and protected from moths. For bags, gentle cleaning by hand is usually enough. If in doubt, professional cleaning helps – or you can simply ask us.
