Six ways, illustrated

How to tie your scarf

One scarf, many ways to wear it. Here are six, from the quick throw in the morning to a stole for the evening.

1

Simple drape

Laid loosely round the neck once, the ends falling at the front – the quickest option on your way out in the morning.

  1. Place the middle of the scarf behind your neck.
  2. Let both ends fall forward at equal length.
2

Double wrap

Wrapped twice, it becomes a soft collar for cool days.

  1. Leave one end much longer than the other.
  2. Take the long end once all the way round your neck.
  3. Loosen the layers slightly.
3

The loop

Holds without a knot and sits close to the neck.

  1. Fold the scarf in half lengthwise.
  2. Place it round your neck, with the loop on one side and the open ends on the other.
  3. Pull both ends through the loop and tighten gently.
4

Loose knot

A simple knot that keeps the scarf in place.

  1. Lay it round your neck once, ends at the front.
  2. Tie the ends together loosely once.
  3. Slide the knot a little to the side for a softer look.
5

Over one shoulder

Over one shoulder it is worn as a stole with a dress.

  1. Drape the scarf open across your back.
  2. Let one end hang at the front.
  3. Throw the other end back over the opposite shoulder.
6

Open over both shoulders

Open over both shoulders, as a light wrap for the evening.

  1. Unfold wide wraps completely.
  2. Lay them over both shoulders.
  3. Let the ends fall at the front or hold them together with one hand.
