Regular care

Yak wool is a particularly high-quality natural fibre, valued for its exceptional warmth, breathability and durability. Compared with cashmere, yak wool has a slightly more robust fibre structure and is therefore often easier to care for in everyday use, without losing any of its exceptional softness.

Thanks to its natural temperature- and moisture-regulating properties, yak wool items rarely need washing. Airing them regularly in the fresh air is often enough. The fibres can absorb and release moisture and odours naturally, which keeps the material fresh for a long time.

• Avoid direct sunlight while airing.
• Light lint or pilling can be removed carefully with a wool or cashmere comb.
• Frequent washing should be avoided in order to preserve the natural properties of the fibres in the long term.

Washing

Yak wool is generally more resilient than many other fine animal fibres, but it should always be treated gently.

• Wash only when necessary.
• Hand wash in cold to lukewarm water (max. 30 °C).
• Use a mild wool detergent or a pH-neutral shampoo.
• Do not rub, brush, wring or stretch the product.
• If machine washing, use only the wool or delicates programme at a low spin speed.

Drying

After washing, press out excess water carefully or absorb it with a clean towel. Then bring the product back into its original shape and let it dry flat.

• Do not use a tumble dryer.
• Protect from direct sunlight, radiators and other strong sources of heat.

Professional cleaning

Storage

Yak wool should be stored only when clean and completely dry.

• Protect it against moths, for example with cedarwood or lavender sachets.
• Keep it in a dry, well-ventilated place.
• For longer storage, breathable fabric bags are better than plastic packaging.

Yak wool comes from animals exposed to extreme climatic conditions high in the mountains. This gives the fibres excellent temperature-balancing and moisture-regulating properties. Compared with cashmere, yak wool is often somewhat more resilient and less demanding to care for, while at the same time offering exceptional softness and warmth. Regular airing rather than frequent washing is therefore the best care, preserving the natural properties of the fibres for many years.

The right preparation

Long-term storage
