Yak Wool Blankets
Pure yak wool from the undercoat of the yak, which lives all year round at the high altitudes of the Himalayas. Combed by hand in spring, not shorn: fibres 16 to 19 microns fine and 30 to 45 mm long, from the high altitudes of Manang and Upper Mustang.
Twelve-ply yarn on 14 gauge, woven by hand in our small workshop in Nepal; a single blanket takes 28 to 30 days of weaving. A strong, robust and durable fibre — in a comparison of yak, cashmere and camel hair, yak shows the highest strength.
Two sizes: the throw at 130 × 255 cm and 650 g, the king-size blanket at 270 × 220 cm and 1,165 g. The colours are the natural tones of the animal, undyed.

Namaste Kids
What this shop is for
Namaste Kids supports more than 500 children from very poor families, most of them in remote mountain regions of the Himalaya. Over many years, until the end of their schooling, so that they can go to school and grow up healthy.
Every purchase makes a twofold difference. With every item sold, the women who wove it are paid. What remains after deducting all selling costs contributes substantially to the work of Namaste Kids e. V. The aim is to break the cycle of poverty and lack of education that would otherwise continue from one generation to the next, so that families become less dependent on donations.
